Method of Instruction

  • Guided Practice in Clinical Setting: Students are actively engaged in practicing and mastering skills under the supervision of the instructor. This category of instruction could include but is not limited clinical experiences, computer-mediated learning, hands-on projects, or other skill building activities. Instruction may be individualized or group-focused and include skills assessment.  Clinical preparation the afternoon or evening before will be completed and uploaded to appropriate canvas drop box no later than 8:00 pm. If work has not been received by this time, the student will not be allowed to attend clinical the following day.  This provides the student with the opportunity to prepare for the clinical experience in advance of being on the clinical unit.  Students will work with the faculty and/or nurse on the unit to provide direct patient care including but not limited to: care of the acutely ill adult including assessment, documentation, safe medication administration, and other nursing care duties within their scope of practice.

Online Course Delivery

  • All class activities – lecture, discussion, assignments, etc. – take place through Canvas. It is recommended that students plan regular days and times to complete the online work, as if the class were scheduled like a face-to-face class (e.g., plan to go online and work on course activities from 6:00-6:30 am every Monday). Plan additional time for assignments.
  • Hybrid course: Class sessions occur face-to-face and online. Students are expected to attend face-to-face sessions and complete online activities, in addition to homework assignments. Online activities and homework are completed in Canvas.

  • Students are informed that sessions are recorded and give their express permission for the sessions to be recorded.
  • If students do not want to be recorded, they have permission to not share video of themselves and to stay muted (i.e., keep their video off and audio muted). They can submit their comments via chat. When you sign into an online class session, you will need to list your initials instead of your full name if you do not want it to appear in the recording.
  • If the recordings are shared with captions or a transcript, they are only shared within the Canvas site for the course with which it corresponds.
