Notifications & Canvas:

Instructure is working towards allowing users more flexibility and control over their course level notifications. Currently, Canvas is pretty much "All" or "Nothing" in terms of course level notifications as you learned in the section on updating your notification preferences.

Canvas recognizes this is an issue for users and in their quest to start allowing users more control they have rolled out Step 1.

Step 1:

Step 1 consists of a broad approach to course level notifications. Users are allowed to enable or disable announcements on a course-by-course basis. Pretty cool, eh?!

The only catch is this is still an "All" or "Nothing" option. You can elect to receive notifications for an entire course or elect not to receive them. If you elect to receive notifications, you will still receive all notifications for which you have registered under your notification preferences. If you elect to not receive notifications, you will not receive any notifications for that course.

Step 2: Coming Soon!

We are hopeful that Step 2 will allow for a more granular selection of notifications on a course-by-course basis. Stay tuned for Step 2!

Important Note:

Remember, instructors use course-level notifications to share a lot of important course-related information such as grades, feedback, class changes, assignment changes, amongst others. Please use this feature wisely! You do not want to miss important information in a course.
